In the 60's I spent several years in Europe where one of my favorite activities was doing brass rubbings. The brasses were all in churches so I got to experience some magnificent stained glass windows too. Of all of them the rose windows of Notre Dame have stayed in my memory.
Susan - Our day at the National Cathedral reminded dearest and I of our day spent at Notre Dame, decades ago now. Same thing - fascination at the incredible detail, but there is was richer for spanning hundreds of years. And that rose window... We sat and just stared. We were there long enough to see the light change in it quite a bit. And then we did the same thing that we did with the National Cathedral - we went outside and hurt our necks gawking at all the details outside. One of our best days, and most memorable, of three weeks in France.
